چکیده

Abstract The R-200 low power Hall thruster unit completed a 96 kNs endurance test, during which the anode mass flow rate was adjusted to maintain constant of 250 W throughout campaign. test performed at Rafael, while initial performance validation conducted ESTEC. At end exhibited nearly unchanged and did not reach its end-of-life. During characterized 5 times in 100–250 discharge range, ceramic channel profile measured 6 assess erosion rate, thrust continuously tracked multiple day, an ignition after 60 continuous operation impact on capability, sensitivity magnetic field changes checked twice (at 12 65 kNs). Two notable events occurred – cathode keeper breach breach. electrode replaced, position adjusted. following continued operate regularly, with no degradation, even inner pole exposed plasma discharge. generated 13 mN entire Isp decreased from 1,250 s beginning life 1,160 test. Performance degradation less than 10% all operating points range experiment. validated 300 successful cycles. Using geometry data, simple semi-empirical model calibrated predict future breaching allow for improved design. information gathered this campaign used redesign profile. A subsequent design showed expected lifetime over 200 kNs.

Plasma properties downstream of a low-power Hall thruster

Triple Langmuir probes and emissive probes were used to measure the electron number density, electron temperature, and plasma potential downstream of a low-power Hall thruster. The results show a polytropic relation between electron temperature and electron number density throughout the sampled region. Over a large fraction of the plume, the plasma potential obeys the predictions of ambipolar e...

Laser-Induced Fluorescence of Neutral Xenon in the Near Field of a 200 W Hall Thruster

This work presents measurements of neutral xenon velocity in the plume of the Busek Company BHT-200X3 200 W Hall thruster at a single 250 V anode potential operating condition. The xenon velocities were measured using laser induced fluorescence of the excited state transition at 834.68 nm. Velocities were interrogated near the exit plane of the anode discharge and in the vicinity of the cathode...

Optical Emission Characterization of High-power Hall Thruster Wear

Optical emission spectroscopy is employed to correlate BN insulator erosion with highpower operation of the NASA 300M Hall-effect thruster. Actinometry leveraging excited xenon states is used to normalize the emission spectra of ground state boron as a function of thruster operating condition. Trends in the strength of the boron signal are correlated with thruster power, discharge voltage, disc...

Electron Cross-Field Transport in a Low Power Cylindrical Hall Thruster

Conventional annular Hall thrusters become inefficient when scaled to low power. Cylindrical Hall thrusters, which have lower surface-to-volume ratio, are therefore more promising for scaling down. They presently exhibit performance comparable with conventional annular Hall thrusters. Electron cross-field transport in a 2.6 cm miniaturized cylindrical Hall thruster (100 W power level) has been ...

Feasibility study of low power helicon thruster

Abastract Helicon thrusters have been recently considered a possible new electric propulsion system thanks to the acceleration mechanism called “current free double layer “ which allows specific impulse up to 1300 s applying Argon and 4000 s applying hydrogen. Although the primary interest of this technology was always regarding primary propulsion , on this paper is explored the possibility of ...
